Speakers:

Jessica Drawbond, Distance Education Coordinator at Los Angeles Community College District

Jessica Drawbond is an Associate Professor of English at LA Southwest College and the Distance Education Coordinator for the Educational Service Center of the Los Angeles Community College District. In this role, she coordinates the distance education training courses and webinars for the nine colleges of the LACCD. She also helps coordinate the distance education efforts and policies of the district colleges.

Wendy Bass, Distance Education Coordinator at Los Angeles Pierce College

Dr. Wendy Bass has been the Distance Education Coordinator at Pierce College in Woodland Hills, California since 2010. In this role she teaches online courses while establishing campus-wide pedagogical standards and operational procedures for online instruction. Prior to coming to Pierce, Dr. Bass was a professor in child development at East Los Angeles College for six years and then became the Distance Education Coordinator at East in 2006.

Soumya Mishra, Postdoctoral Research Associate with the Leveraging Technology and Student Engagement (LTES) project at the Pullias Center for Higher Education

Soumya Mishra is a postdoctoral research associate with the Leveraging Technology and Student Engagement (LTES) project at the Pullias Center for Higher Education. Soumya’s research interests include student access and success in American community colleges as well as higher education policy in South Asian countries. Her current work involves mixed methods research on institutional responses to instructional challenges created by Covid-19 and differences in student learning between various instructional modalities. Previously, Soumya evaluated the academic impact of a Basic Needs Assistance program at a Los Angeles community college.

Elise Swanson, Senior Research Manager at the Center for Education Policy Research (CEPR) at Harvard University

Elise Swanson, Senior Research Manager at the Center for Education Policy Research (CEPR) at Harvard University, is a quantitative and mixed methods researcher. At CEPR, she directs the Leveraging Technology and Engaging Students project, a collaboration between the Los Angeles Community College District, Harvard, and the University of Southern California. She also manages the analytic work of the National Center for Rural Education Research Networks, a research-practice partnership with rural K-12 districts focused on improving student attendance and postsecondary outcomes. Additionally, she trains and advises Fellows participating in the Strategic Data Project, a fellowship program that embeds and supports data analysts in education agencies across the country.
