January 2023: Reflecting on our work
Dear CEPR community,
As the country approaches the three-year anniversary of the first pandemic-related school closures, we know that COVID-19's impact on learning remains a significant challenge. That is why we are working to support this generation of learners to recover.
CEPR brings together researchers, education leaders, and teachers to use data to discover what works for students, and put those findings into practice. In 2022, CEPR researchers and project teams leveraged their collective expertise to examine some of today's pressing questions brought on by the pandemic: How did school closures and remote instruction affect learning? What changes do we need get students back on track?
As you will see, a CEPR team created the most comprehensive portrait of student learning loss due to pandemic-related disruptions to date. Meanwhile, other CEPR projects helped districts and colleges across the country analyze what was happening in their schools and test potential responses. Our experts also piloted potential interventions aimed at improving math and reading instruction and addressed the needs of rural schools.
We will continue this important work in the coming year, because the need continues.
Best,
