Elizabeth Burland

Elizabeth Burland is an Associate Director of Research on the States Leading States portfolio of work. Elizabeth’s work uses experimental and quasi-experimental program evaluation and qualitative interview methods to understand social inequality and evaluate policy solutions. Elizabeth's existing research focuses on educational stratification, economic inequality, and public policy design. For example, some of her work uses randomized controlled trials to investigate how to design policies to reduce the barriers faced by students in attending high-quality postsecondary institutions, combined with qualitative research to understand the factors and mechanisms shaping student college and career decisions. Prior to joining CEPR, Elizabeth worked as an Assistant Research Professor at the University of Connecticut's School of Public Policy after receiving her Ph.D. in Public Policy and Sociology from the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan.
