This document outlines guiding principles for the ethical and effective use of classroom video and instructional artifacts in teacher candidate performance assessments. Developed by AACTE’s Information Privacy Task Force, the principles emphasize that video should first and foremost support student learning and teacher growth. They highlight the importance of informed consent, secure handling of video materials, transparent rules for access and use, and collaboration across preparation programs and PK–12 institutions. The goal is to ensure classroom video is used responsibly to strengthen teacher preparation while protecting students and families.
